  • An estimated 600,000 students are unintentionally injured per year while under the influence of alcohol.
  • Women become more impaired than men do after drinking the exact same amount of alcohol; this happens because women's bodies have less water than men's bodies. Because alcohol mixes with body water, alcohol becomes more highly concentrated in a woman's body than in a man's; a simple way to explain this is to use the example of dropping the same amount of alcohol into a much smaller pail of water.
  • Ages 18-24 are considered the peak years for onset and intensification of the most common mental health problems among youth - including alcohol abuse.
  • In 2009, the Monitoring the Future Survey reported that 37% of 8th graders and 72% of 12th graders had tried alcohol, and 15% of 8th graders and 44% of 12th graders drank during the past month.
