- Binge drinking is a common pattern of excessive alcohol use in the United States. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism defines binge drinking as a pattern of drinking that brings a persons blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to 0.08 grams percent or above. This typically happens when men consume 5 or more drinks, and when women consume 4 or more drinks, in about 2 hours.
- In general, the risk of youth experiencing these problems is greater for those who binge drink than for those who do not binge drink.
- The total number of alcohol ads on network, local and cable television was 289,381 in 2002, a 39% increase from 2001.
- Alcoholism and problems with alcohol tends to run in families.
